A superfast, snag-free, multi-store upgrade

A 12 month upgrade programme, delivered in 12 weeks

When the Southern Cooperative decided to upgrade 91 stores across its network, the company turned to long-term partner, Shelving Solutions, to ensure the project was completed quickly and cost-effectively. The upgrade project was a key element in the Southern Cooperative’s EVO initiative.

We exceeded the client’s expectations by delivering a complex, multi-store upgrade, which would typically be expected to take around 12 months, in just 12 weeks.

91 in 12: The logistical challenge

While the majority of the 91 locations were convenience stores, there were also a number of larger supermarkets ear-marked for upgrade.

The stores were located across a relatively wide area of Southern England ranging from East Sussex through Southampton and Portsmouth to Bristol in the West. The inclusion of a couple of stores situated on Isle of Wight meant products had to be transported by ferry which is not only expensive but also fraught with potential for delay.

Dealing with a project of this magnitude inevitably increased the pressure on Shelving Solutions manufacturing, warehousing and stock control processes.

Raising our game

We had to raise our game to produce the necessary amount of product within the very short period of time available. The project included 15 larger stores each of which required 10 pallets of shelving and equipment and 76 smaller shops needing 2-3 pallets.

To give you an idea of the speed and scale of activity, we had our busiest ever week during the EVO roll-out in which we produced all the shelving required to refit 19 stores in just 5 working days!

Quality comes as standard

Shelving Solutions provided a variety of shelving, counters and display systems including fresh produce shelving, new in-store bakery fittings and equipment, flower and general product display stands in a sophisticated colour palette based on black, silver and cream.

Shelving Solutions used premium industry-standard, modular products to provide the Southern Cooperative with robust and adaptable shelving with exceptional build quality. As ever, all the products we used conformed to all UK and International Industry standards.
