Established in 1770, Bradford Building Supplies is one of the oldest and most successful companies in the UK building supplies industry. With 49 branches across the Midlands and South West England, Bradfords Building Supplies is the largest privately owned builder’s merchants in the UK.
Throughout its history, ambition and adaptability have been equally important factors in the company’s success. Bradford Building Supplies is currently involved in a multi-faceted development initiative that will see the company’s network increasing from 49 to 75 outlets, offering a broader range of products and services.
As part of this initiative, Bradford Building Supplies commissioned Total Design Shop Fitting (TDS) to create new interior retail design concepts for implementation within a number of the company’s retail outlets.
Initially, TDS focused on two existing stores, Wareham, Dorset and Martock, Somerset, which are, respectively, the smallest and largest outlets in the company’s network. TDS created a flexible design concept that would make best use of all available retail space in each of the two very different outlets, to enable Bradfords to sell a wider range of products and provide a more productive and enjoyable shopping experience.
As with every TDS project, the starting point was not the design or products but the organisation, its people and the way in which they work. TDS worked closely with Bradfords’ in-house team throughout the project, sharing our experience and expertise, helping them bring the brand to life in a design concept that could be replicated across the company’s network.
As principle contractor for the initial 2-site project, TDS provided a turnkey service that included internal design, merchandising, project and implementation management. TDS worked with another TDS Group member company, Shelving Solutions, on the design, build and installation of retail shelving and bespoke counters.
TDS took control of every aspect of the project demonstrating a level of skill, attention to detail and all-round professionalism that exceeded Bradfords’expectations. Bradfords was impressed not only with the quality and availability of service. At every stage of the project, TDS was on hand 24/7, ready to answer questions, solve problems and, above all, ensure the two projects were delivered on time and within budget.
